Blackheath in Spring time

Photographs hardly justify the beauty. Seeing these flowers in full bloom overwhelms the senses. <3 There's nothing quite as beautiful as Blackheath in the spring <3

Visit The Megalong Valley Tearooms

Just a short drive out of Blackheath, down the winding road through the rainforest of The Megalong Valley you will arrive at the 50-year-family-owned Megalong Valley Tearooms. Nestled in a rural oasis beneath stunning sandstone escarpment, it is renowned for its Devonshire tea, home-made apple pies (my favourite!), delicious home-style cooking and good old fashioned country hospitality. It’s a must see/do while visiting Blackheath.
Smell that country air as you enjoy a superb home-cooked country breakfast of free range eggs, crispy bacon, mushrooms, home-grown tomatoes and their own recipe of home-made baked beans in the sprawling garden setting while horses and kangaroos graze in the open paddocks. On cooler days you can nestle into the warm cosy dining room beside the log fire and enjoy the real feel of old style country dining. Highly recommended  <3
Visit www.megalongtearooms.com/menu.php to view their menu and click on the History tab to read about how the Megalong Tearooms came to be.

Soy Wax Candles from The Hartley Home

At Brantwood Cottage we use 100% soy wax candles hand poured in The Hartley Home. These elegant candles come in a variety of subtle, delicate scents:
Velvet Pear, Vanilla Bean, Berry Patch, Pocket Posy, Oriental Zest, Rambling Rose, Gardenia, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Winter Night and Pink Peony
Soy’s greatest advantage is that it is completely renewable. A well-made soy candle will burn cleanly and slowly (up to 70 hours). While the performance and beauty of soy candles speak for themselves, soy wax is truly an eco-friendly, biodegradable and sustainable product.
Orders may be placed via Email thehartleyhome@gmail.com or by phoning Rebecca on 0433 455 400 or Cailin on 0410 469 726. Candles can be shipped anywhere within Australia. Please ask about their gift wrapping service.
Candle jars by The Hartley Home are reasonably priced at $15.00 each or three for $40.00. They are beautifully presented in a square glass jar with lid, and adorned with attractive ribbon.

These candles have left a lasting impression with our guests ~ a treat to have lit and lined along the tub while taking an indulgent, relaxing soak. My love currently lies with Velvet Pear, but Vanilla is sounding very tempting J

Sydney Morning Herald Travellers Section REVIEW :)

A very special Thank You today to Angie Schiavone, Travel Writer for SMH. Angie and her party stayed at Brantwood in June and she has written this brilliant piece on Brantwood Cottage. We are ever so grateful for her kind words; the way she has so beautiful captured the essence of Brantwood. Makes us feel very proud - and makes it all the more rewarding for the work we put into the cottage. Angie also made mention of some local businesses, cafes, restaurants and attractions - a real rap for the Upper Blue Mountains.

Angie's Verdict The home away from home you've always wanted.

Short Walks - Leura Cascades

If you’re spending time in Leura on a misty, drizzly morn, take a short walk down to Leura Cascades.
Even if you’re not up for a bushwalk, you can still see the Cascades from the picnic area near Chelmsford Bridge. Leura Cascades consist of two parts – the lower Cascades being more spectacular.  It’s like walking under a rainforest canopy – the plant species range from tall Eucalyptus to an abundance of tree ferns, mosses and lichens. It's an experience that will stay in your musemory forever.

Enchanté from Brantwood

At Brantwood you’ll experience a touch of French Country. The style is relaxed yet elegant, with colour schemes that are easy on the eye.
The French country bedroom is open, light and airy, creating a restful haven that is harmonious and romantic.French country bedrooms are characterised by their freshness and simplicity. The French love individuality, beauty and comfort, and have their own way of interpreting style. Its mode may be simple but that doesn't mean it will be short on luxury.
Every component is carefully chosen, mixing old with new, intricate with simple, all in perfect harmony. It’s a softer, more feminine approach to home decorating and one we’re sure you’ll enjoy while staying at Brantwood.

Winter winds cause chaos in Blackheath

Poor old Blackheath copped a battering this week with winds reaching up to 140kmph. By the grace of God nobody was hurt. Brantwood was spared, thankfully, but some other places weren't so fortunate. Towering pines and ghost gums fell, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. The Firies, SES, Endeavour Energy and local volunteers have been working tirelessly. Such a brave community, all pulling together, resilient, helpful and courageous - all of them, heroes.

Winds are still gusting today between 40 and 80kmph in the Upper Blue. It'll remain that way into the night. Endeavour Energy last night announced that 7000 homes would remain without power this morning with the restoration effort resuming today. There may be intermittent highway closures throughout the day as the clean-up continues.

Power has been restored to the centre of Blackheath - so shops, cafes and restaurants are up and running. This is encouraging news for the community. It may be romantic to spend a night or two by candlelight and a roaring log fire, but no central heating, no functioning kitchen and no hot water is far from fun in these chilly conditions.
